Read with Me, the weekly reading session at Seenimodara English Academy hosted by Foundation co-founder Pravin Mukhi, welcomed two visiting readers on Wednesday, 12th of August.

‘Read with Me’ runs every week at Seenimodara English Academy. Pupils gather to read aloud, each taking their turn while the rest of the group follows. The session is hosted by DHD Foundation co-founder Pravin Mukhi, in person when he is in Sri Lanka and by video call when he is not.

The session on Wednesday 12th August was arranged by Headmistress Wasana and Bryony Jones, Operations Director of the DHD Foundation. Bryony was joined by her sister Holly Crane, a special educational needs support teaching assistant who is currently studying for a Level 5 specialist qualification in speech and language support. Fifteen children took part across the afternoon.

Reading aloud with the older children

Eight of the school’s older pupils took part, five girls and three boys, each taking a turn to read aloud, work through unfamiliar words and practise their spoken English with an adult listening.

Homework support for the younger class

While the reading session ran, two young volunteers who travelled with the group sat with seven younger children, checked homework, and went through corrections with them.
