Students of the Seenimodara English Academy gathered with their families to celebrate achievement, resilience and progression at the Academy’s annual concert and prize giving.

Students, alumni and families gathered alongside Headmistress Wasana Priyangani and members of the DHD Foundation for this year’s prize giving, held at the home of Daisy Honeybunn and Pravin Mukhi.

The setting, which also hosts the Academy’s swimming lessons, provided a familiar and welcoming space to celebrate achievement across all age groups.

The event recognised academic excellence and personal growth, celebrating examination success and progression through the programme, and acknowledging the determination shown by students balancing their studies with the realities of life in coastal communities.

Performances including music, spoken word and group presentations showcased not only growing confidence in English, but also the strength of the Academy’s pastoral care and inclusive learning environment.

For many families, the prize giving represents far more than an annual celebration. It marks tangible progress, from passing Grade 5 and Grade 11 scholarship examinations to A Level success and university placements, milestones that were once beyond reach for young people in the surrounding villages.

The DHD Foundation continues to support the SEA through funding for transport, accommodation, extracurricular activities and mentoring, helping ensure that financial barriers do not limit potential.

Events such as this are a powerful reminder that sustainable change happens step by step. Through education, encouragement and opportunity, futures are being reshaped.
