CEA students embark on an unforgettable journey to Jaffna
In July 2025, students from the Ceylon English Academy (CEA) took part in their annual school trip. This year, a three-day visit to Jaffna and other significant cultural sites across Sri Lanka.
The trip held particular significance as last year’s outing was cancelled due to political unrest. With support from the DHD Foundation, funds from both 2024 and 2025 were combined to make this longer journey possible. For many of the students, it was their first time travelling outside their home region on the southern coast.
Over the course of the trip, students visited a number of key historical, religious, and cultural sites:
-
Sigiriya
-
Point Pedro
-
Dabakolapatuna
-
Nagadipa Temple
-
Nagadipa Kovil
-
Nallur Kovil
-
Jaffna Library
-
Jaffna Fort
-
Ruwanwelisaya (Ruwanwalimahaseya)
-
Sri Maha Bodhiya
The trip was organised by Headmistress Wasana and aimed to broaden students’ understanding of their country’s heritage while encouraging personal growth, cultural awareness, and independence.
The DHD Foundation continues to support the CEA’s annual field trip as part of its commitment to providing well-rounded educational opportunities to young people in southern Sri Lanka.
