CEA students lead beach clean at Mawella Bay
In April 2025, the Ceylon English Academy (CEA) brought environmental education to life with a student-led beach clean-up on the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
All of the participating students live locally, many from fishing families whose lives are closely tied to the ocean. At Mawella Bay, they came together to clear plastic waste and debris from the shoreline.
The clean-up was more than just an environmental effort, it was a hands-on lesson in community responsibility and environmental stewardship. It gave students the chance to lead by example and protect the coastline they call home.
At the DHD Foundation, we believe education extends beyond the classroom. By supporting projects like this, we’re helping young people build the skills and confidence to shape a more sustainable future.
Little by little, their actions add up to cleaner coasts, stronger communities, and lasting change.
