LEF wins ‘Best Impact’ at 2025 Collectives awards

A marine conservation project supported by the Lanka Environment Fund has been recognised for its cross-border impact and commitment to long-term environmental change.
A transboundary marine conservation project supported by the Lanka Environment Fund has won the 2025 Best Impact Award from the Conservation Collective, recognising grassroots projects that deliver measurable, replicable environmental change.
The project focused on tackling Abandoned, Lost and Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG), working across Sri Lanka and India to reduce risks to marine ecosystems. It brought together a range of partners including IUCN Sri Lanka, SDMRI in Tamil Nadu, and technical advisors from both countries. The initiative was initially funded by the Norwegian Retailers Environment Fund, with LEF taking on an expanded role from 2023 onwards.
“This recognition belongs to all of us who worked together over several years,” said Vinod. “It reflects the value of collaboration, the power of persistence, and the importance of listening to local knowledge.”
The project formally concluded in 2024, but its influence continues through the partnerships and approaches it helped shape, and through the spotlight it shines on regional marine conservation.
