Protecting the wilds with people
LEF Executive Director Vinod Malwatte features in the Sunday Times Magazine, sharing his commitment to grassroots conservation and community-led environmental protection.
Vinod Malwatte, Executive Director of the Lanka Environment Fund, was recently featured in the Sunday Times Magazine in a piece titled Protecting the Wilds with the People. The article highlights Vinod’s work to support impactful, locally led conservation efforts across Sri Lanka — from the establishment of wildlife corridors to pioneering blue carbon seagrass research.
The feature emphasises the critical need to fund under-supported local initiatives and the importance of engaging communities who live closest to nature in protecting it. Vinod’s approach reflects a deep-rooted belief in long-term stewardship, collaboration and care for Sri Lanka’s ancient natural landscapes.
